Nancy Harris started her career as a large-scale event coordinator, planning and facilitating emergency preparedness and logistics for Bike MS in Chicago, the inaugural Boston Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Gay Games VII in Chicago, and training volunteers for the Boston – New York AIDS Ride. Working as a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Chicago Ms. Harris began her transition into public administration and emergency management.
Currently, Ms. Harris serves as a logistics planner for the Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program (RCPGP) NY-NJ-CT-PA. Her work includes the development of numerous guidance documents on spontaneous volunteers and unsolicited donations management. In her role with the RCPGP she conceptualized and managed the development of the first U.S. conference devoted to disaster logistics, and she continues to manage the development of training designed to expand logistics capacity throughout the Northeast region.
A longtime participant in the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Ms. Harris has served as a member of both the USA and Global Boards of Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Print Journalism from Boston University, an ABA paralegal certificate from Marist College and anticipates her Master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management in 2013.
